Gaganadipika's father brought the family over from Bangladesh to pursue astrophysics jobs. She has followed in her father's footsteps, also becoming an astrophysicist. At the moment her research involves the mergers of neutron stars with each other or with a black hole to create kilonovae. They rotate around each other so fast at the end they create gravitational waves, and the LIGO data has been invaluable to her.
